Mudcloth

Mali

The Mudcloths of Mali epitomise the beauty of low-tech, slow design. Often a two or three day process of dipping, drying, painting and finally soaking in Niger River mud the alchemy and poetry involved in developing these textiles is as beautiful as the place from where they are made. Cathy made two trips to record this work - one in Burkina Faso to show the making process for an exhibition at Habitat in London and one in the home base of Segou in Mali. These evocative images struck a massive chord with people and have been featured by leading journals and websites across the globe.
